Dr. Akampumuza Obed

Dr. Akampumuza Obed is the current Head of Cosmetology and Fashion Department in the School of Vocational Studies at Kyambogo University where he doubles as a Lecturer. He has a PhD in Textile Engineering but has been earlier trained in Clothing Technology.

He has previously worked at Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) as a Textile Research Engineer where he was principally tasked with product development in the area of textile and fashion.

His ongoing research at Kyambogo University covers areas of recycling and sustainability in textile and fashion industries, green composite materials and digital prototyping in the fashion industry.

He is currently a principal investigator for an ongoing research project seeking to recycle fabric scraps (offcuts) for utilization in the fabrication of virgin textile fabrics and has previously consulted for WasteAid funded project titled: “Market Assessment of Second-Hand Textile Value Chain in Kampala, Uganda” and Ministry of Science Technology and Innovations funded project titled: “The Development of Medical Textiles from Ugandan Fibres”. He has also been involved in curriculum development activities with NCDC.
