Kafunjo has worked for over 20 years in Government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and the NGO world. He is currently working as the Manager of Traditional Knowledge with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau,the National Intellectual Property Office.

He is coordinating efforts to have a national traditional knowledge protection legislation for Uganda. Kafunjo has been, since 2018, a member of the Expert Group of the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC), charged with negotiating an international legal instrument for the protection of traditional knowledge, genetic resources, and traditional cultural expressions. Kafunjo is the current Chairperson Board of Trustees of Theta Uganda, an NGO that promotes access to and research on traditional medicine in Uganda.

He has also held various positions in a number of other companies. He holds a Master’s Degree in Social Sector Planning and management and is currently a PhD candidate (Sociology) at the University of South Africa (UNISA) doing research on Indigenous Knowledge and Intellectual Property of Traditional Medicine in Uganda.
