
Jean Byamugisha is the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA), the sole trade association representing Uganda’s hotel sector. UHOA is not only the largest but also one of the oldest private sector associations in Uganda’s tourism industry, boasting over 700 member hotels. Ms. Byamugisha has the distinction of being the first female CEO of UHOA and the youngest to hold this position. Under her leadership, UHOA has grown significantly from 202 members to 725 members in just six years, marking her as one of the most successful CEOs in the association’s history. Her exceptional performance has been recognized nationally, being listed among the 20 Best Performing CEOs in Uganda in 2018 and 2019. Additionally, she was named among the top 100 women in Tourism in Africa in 2017 and among Uganda’s Top 40 CEOs under 40 in 2018. In 2020 and recently in April 2025 she was honored as one of Uganda’s 50 most admirable women. Ms. Byamugisha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Management from Makerere University, one of Africa’s premier universities. She has also obtained various postgraduate certifications from esteemed international training institutions most notably the ITCILO in Turin, Italy. Passionate about the tourism industry, she mentors hospitality students across multiple universities in Uganda. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading and traveling.
